The 2020 National Park Quarter was issued as part of the America the Beautiful Quarters program. The coin’s obverse (Head) features Washington’s side and the inscription UNITED STATES OF AMERICA – LIBERTY – IN GOD WE TRUST- QUARTER DOLLAR. The reverse (tail), features two Samoan fruit bats, along with the inscription National Park – American Samoa – 2020 – E PLURIBUS UNO.
These fruit bats are native to American Samoa, where habitat decline has made them an endangered species. American Samoa, a US territory, is home to the National Park of American Samoa National Historical Park. The size of this park is roughly 13,000 acres. Fruit bats, rainforests, and coral reefs are all preserved and protected by the park.
